Delta passenger says she was injured by unruly kid

A Delta passenger says she was left badly bruised after an unruly child kicked her repeatedly during a flight.

Sally Canario was on a red-eye from Los Angeles to Minneapolis on April 2 when a little girl lying next to her, with her head on her mother’s lap, started kicking her in the face, ribs and lap, she said.

“The girl threw a bad tantrum — screaming, crying and bicycle-kicking while she was trying to sleep,” Canario told the UK’s Sun.

Canario — who has three kids herself — claims that when she complained, flight attendants told her she was the nuisance.

“I heard you were causing trouble and harassing the family next to you,” she recalled a flight attendant telling her when she tried to file an injury report.

“I am not a babysitter, you two parties need to work things out. This is a full flight. I do not take injury reports… you aren’t injured,” she said the attendant added.

Canario now has cartilage damage as a result of the kicks, she said.

“I am hurting on my chest, from my sternum to my rib cage,” she told the Sun.

Toward the end of the flight, the mom of the out-of-control child told Canario that her husband was on board, and that they’d tried to all sit together but Delta’s policy didn’t allow it.

“[She] explained to me that her husband bought discount tickets for spring break where Delta does not allow seat selection 24 hours prior to boarding. Why don’t they let families sit together?” she asked.

“Had I known her husband was on the flight, I would have gladly traded with him and spared myself this painful injury and hellish nightmare,” she added.

Canario is calling for Delta to update its policy and allow for families booking last-minute discounted seats to sit together.

A Delta spokesperson said they apologized to Canario and forwarded her suggestions on seating options to their leadership team.

“We regret to learn of the experience and discomfort described by this customer on a recent flight,” the airline said in a statement.
