Geoffrey Berman, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, is recused from the probe into President Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen, ABC News reports.
Two sources told the network that Berman was not involved in the decision to raid Cohen’s office, home and Park Avenue hotel room because of the recusal, which was OK’d by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
The search warrants were executed Monday by federal prosecutors in the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office, which is led by Berman, a Trump appointee.
The raids were handled by others in the office and approved by a federal judge. The US Attorney’s office declined to comment to ABC News.
The feds — working on a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller, who’s investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and any possible collusion on the part of the Trump campaign — seized materials about various legal matters, including payments made to Stormy Daniels.
On Tuesday, Trump continued attacking the FBI’s raids, declaring“attorney-client privilege is dead!”
” A TOTAL WITCH HUNT!!!” he added a minute later.
